Hi there, and welcome to Canada Affiliate Guide – your beginner-friendly hub for affiliate marketing in Canada.!
I’m Dawn, the creator behind Canada Affiliate Guide. I hope this site helps you see what I finally learned myself — that building an online business really can be simple, practical, and even fun. I want every Canadian beginner to feel confident saying, “Hey, I can do this too.” Because you absolutely can. As a beginner, it took me some time to learn that You don’t need to know everything before you start. You just need to start.

When I first began, I thought I had to have it all figured out — every step, every tool, every answer — before I could even start. But I learned that the only way forward is to simply begin. You don’t need to know everything; you just need to take that first small step. Waiting for perfection was what kept me stuck for so long.
In the beginning, I kept waiting to feel “ready.” I wanted to understand every piece before I took action — but that mindset only held me back and was my biggest roadblock. Once I finally just started, everything began to make sense. The fear faded, and I realized the only real mistake is waiting too long to begin.
The truth is, you learn best by doing. Starting small — even when you don’t feel ready —that is the key. I wish someone had told me sooner that progress, not perfection, is what moves you forward.
And because I now believe in learning by doing, everything I share comes from real experience — the trial and error, the small wins, and even the “what was I thinking?” moments.
I’ll show you what is working for me, share what doesn’t, and tips on how to keep things simple enough to actually enjoy the process. Because if you can enjoy it, you’ll stick with it.
When I built my first website, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I spent hours Googling how to install WordPress and trying to figure out what a “plugin” even was (I ended up installing too many plugins and that slowed my website down). I broke things, fixed things, and broke them again — but every mistake taught me something new. And you know what? That’s how most of us start.
Building an online business doesn’t require perfection — it just requires patience, a willingness to learn, persistence, and a little bit of faith in yourself. So just have fun, enjoy the process, and celebrate every small win along the way. You’ll be amazed at how quickly those small, steady efforts start to add up to something truly rewarding.
Inside this hub, you’ll find tools that actually work in Canada, clear step-by-step lessons, helpful checklists, and beginner-friendly resources that helped me t started and that I still use today. Everything you need to build skills, grow confidence, and see real progress one small step at a time.
I wanted to create something simple, trustworthy, and actually helpful for everyday Canadians who just want to start small and grow steady. To make learning new skills feel easy — and your progress truly rewarding.
It takes time to see results from your efforts but because I am learning something new everyday, that is part of the excitement for me. I have never been afraid of the hard work that it takes to start a new business, or the patience and persistence needed to make it a success.
I want to share some of the business ventures that I started at a young age, not to brag about the success but so you can understand that I know what it takes to start and build a new business. I understand the trials, the ups and downs, that come before you see any success. I have also learned that the biggest failure one can have is not starting.
I am not making a full-time income yet from affiliate marketing, but I see the same potential in it that I saw in my other businesses. The potential is what gives me the drive to keep building a business despite the trials I experience in the beginning. I understand growth is determined by the effort that I put into the process.
Some situations can come up in life that can slow our progress down and take time away from building our online business. But, as long as we still do something small on it every day, it will continue to grow.
I am convinced that becoming an affiliate marketer in Canada is definitely worth the effort, it works, and has so much potential.

🌱 From Alberta Farm Girl to Entrepreneur
I grew up on a farm in Alberta, where I learned early what it meant to work hard. Chores started early, and quitting wasn’t an option — it built grit, patience, and a quiet confidence that still guides me today.
At just 17, I started my own boarding kennel and raised Chow Chows and German Shepherds. I did this for 15 years. It was a 24/7, seven-days-a-week, all-year-round commitment — feeding, cleaning, training, caring for, and learning what it meant to run a business built on responsibility and trust.
During that time, I also launched my own dog grooming salon, which I operated for 33 years. I eventually sold the kennel, moved into the city, and continued grooming dogs full-time until 2015, when I retired due to health reasons.
Running both businesses taught me more than any classroom ever could — how to serve clients with care, how to manage my time (or at least try to), and how to keep going even when things got tough.
When the 2008 recession hit during the subprime mortgage crisis, many families cut back on non-essential spending, and my grooming income took a hit. To help supplement it, I began selling on eBay, which opened up a whole new world of opportunity — and planted the seed for my online journey ahead.
💼 The eBay Chapter: From Curiosity to PowerSeller
When the 2008 recession hit, my grooming business slowed, and I needed to supplement my income. That’s when I turned to eBay.
I started small on eBay, just selling things from around the house. But before long, I was hooked — hunting down unique vintage items and learning what people loved to collect.
Eventually, I became a PowerSeller, specializing in vintage Dick and Jane readers and Minolta cameras. I loved it, it was fun, exciting, and the satisfaction of building something online from scratch was… incredible.
It gave me a real sense of freedom and pride knowing that with determination, curiosity, and a bit of creativity, I could turn something I loved into a thriving online business.
While I loved it, the long hours and constant packing and shipping was starting to wear me down. I wanted something more sustainable — something I could run without depending on physical products or daily deadlines.
That’s when affiliate marketing came back into my life.
💡 Discovering Affiliate Marketing (and Waiting 9 Years to Try It)
I first heard about affiliate marketing back in 2008, right around the time I was juggling eBay sales and my grooming salon. The idea of earning income by recommending products I was already using fascinated me.
But with everything else going on, I didn’t have the time or energy to explore it further. So, I tucked it away in the back of my mind and carried on with what I knew best — grooming dogs and managing online eBay sales.
Nearly a decade later, in 2017, I decided to take another look. I was ready for something new — something that didn’t demand 12 to 14 hour workdays or constant shipping deadlines. But when I started researching affiliate marketing again, I hit a wall.
Most of the information I found was written for Americans — different laws, different programs, and some far-fetched promises? “Earn $10,000 a month working 5 hours a week!” Yeah right… I knew better. I wasn’t looking for hype; I was looking for help.
🍁 The Turning Point: Finding Wealthy Affiliate
Everything changed when I found Wealthy Affiliate — a Canadian-founded platform that finally made affiliate marketing make sense.

It was the first time I’d seen all the tools and training I needed in one place:
✅ Step-by-step lessons that guide you from your first website to earning income.
✅ Built-in website hosting, keyword tools, and site security.
✅ Business Hubs — a new feature that helps you organize multiple affiliate projects and keep everything running smoothly.
✅ AI integration to help brainstorm, plan, and create content faster (without losing your own authentic voice).
✅ A supportive community of real people — not bots, no hype — people who genuinely want you to succeed.
It gave me structure, support, and a place to build — all in one spot. I learned how to set up websites, write content, find affiliate programs, and connect with Canadians and others who “get it” and are on the same journey.
If you’re serious about starting your affiliate journey, this is where you’ll get clarity, direction, and the push you need to make it happen.
I honestly believe it’s the best platform for beginners in Canada who want to start an online business the right way — with real tools, real training, and a real community.
The fact that Wealthy Affiliate was co-founded by two Canadians (Kyle and Carson) sealed the deal for me. It gave me confidence that I could finally get reliable answers and local guidance for the unique challenges we face in Canada.
It wasn’t flashy. It wasn’t over-promising. It was just honest, practical, and proven — and that’s what I’d been searching for all along.
Things started to really click when I joined Wealthy Affiliate —because it’s where I found the confidence to keep going.
I also realized something important: there are so many Canadians out there just like me — people who want to create a side income or full-time business, but don’t know where to start.
Like a lot of Canadians, I wanted a way to earn from home without giving up the things that mattered most — time, family, and sanity.
I believe affiliate marketing isn’t just about earning commissions; it’s about building something you’re proud of and something that gives you freedom for the important things in your life.

🌻 My Philosophy
Affiliate marketing isn’t about chasing every dollar — it’s about building something you believe in. If you promote products that truly help people, the money follows naturally.
I believe in:
● Transparency — be upfront about what’s an affiliate link.
● Integrity — only promote what you’d recommend to your best friend.
● Kindness — because the online world needs more of it.
Affiliate marketing has been a new chapter in my life — one that lets me keep learning, connecting, and creating even after stepping away from a 33-year career that defined me for decades.
I started as a farm girl, built a kennel, ran a grooming business, became a PowerSeller, and now I’m helping Canadians find their own version of freedom online.
So wherever you are in your journey — curious, cautious, or ready to dive in — remember this:
Every successful affiliate marketer started exactly where you are.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Start with what you have, learn as you go, and trust that each small step counts. You’ve got this.
With warmth and encouragement,
– Dawn ❤️
